SPAY DAY USA, FEB. 28, 2007

Let us share some statistics with you.
246 Unplanned, unwanted, preventable births
37 Infant deaths due to mothers ill health and/or lack of a healthy diet.

These figures are not referring to an inner-city poverty area, they are documented cases of kitten & puppy births and deaths right here in our "River City."  They only include the animals that we cared for at our facility, not the births that took place under the house, woodpile, or bushes where no one was aware of them.  As you can see, there is still a need to stop the population explosion that is happening in our pet community.

Each year, February is designated National Spay/Neuter your pet month.  February  28, 2007, has been chosen as Spay Day USA,  a day to be part of the solution for pet overpopulation.  Florence Area Humane Society is working to reduce the number of unwanted, unplanned pet births in our area with a twice monthly "Below Cost Spay/Neuter Clinics."  Have your own pet spayed or neutered or sponsor the spay or neuter of a friends or a shelter pet.

Many people in our area are willing to provide shelter and food for strays until such time as a home can be found for them, but they can not afford to cover the cost of a spay or neuter so the stray population continues to grow.  Would you like to help by subsidizing the spay or neuter of one of these animals?  A donation of $30 will cover the neuter of a male cat, $45 will cover a spay.  Alterations for dogs begin at $50.

You can help us subsidize the spay and neuter of pets in low income or senior homes with a donation of even $1 to $10 to our spay/neuter fund.

Please help us with a donation to the SPAY/NEUTER FUND so that we may continue to reduce the growth of the homeless cat and dog population.

We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.  Your donation is tax deductible as provided by law.

S/N Clinic Celebrates One Year Anniversary

Feb. 9th is a very special occasion for those of us involved in the Low Cost Spay Neuter Clinic at Florence Area Humane Society.  At the end of the day we will have altered over 760 animals.  If you extend this number out at a conservative average rate of 5 to a litter we will have prevented the possible birth of over 3800 unwanted eventually homeless animals.  Are we excited about our success in slowing down the population explosion?  We sure are and you should be, too!  We recently received a notice that the city of New York and the surrounding area has a goal of spaying or neutering 14,000 companion animals in the next year.  They plan to do this with the help of 65 animal rescue organizations and 260 veterinarians.  In 2004 we altered 5.5% as many animals as they plan with one organization, one veterinarian, a volunteer staff, and the support of the very best 'can-do' community in the country.

There are still hundreds of cats and dogs in our area that need to be spayed or neutered. We are still receiving calls daily from people who need financial help getting their pets altered. Our clinics are booked over a month in advance. Please continue to support us in our battle to stop the population explosion by sending a donation to help those who can not afford to have it done on their own.  A donation of $30 will neuter one male cat, $45 will spay a female cat, and dog spays and neuters start at $50.  Anything you can contribute to help those on low or fixed incomes be responsible pet owners will be gratefully appreciated and used to continue the fight to stop pet overpopulation.
